Are you going to produce renewable energy? Then you can use the subsidy for Sustainable Energy Stimulation (SDE ++ subsidies). This subsidy stimulates the development of a sustainable energy supply in the Netherlands.
The SDE ++ subsidy is intended for companies and (non- profit) organisations who want to generate sustainable energy. Only the intended producer can apply for this subsidy. This means that you commit and operate the production installation yourself.
SDE ++ is the new form of SDE + in which reducing CO² emissions in a cost-effective way is central. This new scheme focuses not only on sustainable energy technologies, but also on CO2 reduction techniques.
The first application round for the SDE ++ is from 24 November to 17 December 2020. The budget that the government has opened for the SDE ++ subsidies is 5 billion. The benefit of the SDE ++ subsidy stops when the maximum available budget has been paid out. So apply for the SDE ++ subsidy as soon as possible.
The following categories are eligible for SDE ++ subsidy:
- Renewable electricity
- Renewable heat
- Renewable gas
- Low CO² heat
- Low-carbon production
The subsidy compensates for the price difference between the cost price of sustainable energy and the market price of ‘gray’ energy.

Why an application strategy for the SDE ++ subsidies
The SDE ++ subsidy application is quite complex, the government sets specific requirements for each category. In addition, the moment of submission determines the amount of the subsidy and the chance of success.
There are three different phases in the opening round. The following applies for this subsidy: first come, first served. Applications submitted earlier in the opening round, for example phase 1, therefore have a greater chance of success.
The amount for which you apply for a subsidy increases in each phase. It is therefore good to think about how much subsidy you need and at what stage you want to submit your application.
The phases and associated amounts of these SDE ++ phases are as follows, projects with a phase amount lower than or equal to:
1: € 0.070 / kWh (renewable electricity and / or heat) or € 0.049 / kWh (renewable gas): from November 24, 2020, 9:00 AM to November 30, 2020, 5:00 PM.
2: € 0.080 / kWh (renewable electricity and / or heat) or € 0.056 / kWh (renewable gas): from November 30, 2020, 5:00 PM to December 7, 2020, 5:00 PM.
3: € 0.130 / kWh (renewable electricity and / or heat) or € 0.092 / kWh (renewable gas): from December 7, 2020, 5:00 PM to December 14, 2020, 5:00 PM.
The SDE ++ offers a subsidy for the use of technologies for the generation of renewable energy and other CO 2 -reducing techniques. Some of these techniques also applied to the SDE +. So pay attention to which category you want to apply for the subsidy.
